Meet Jim Jorgenson

Luckiest break
While I was considering where to go for graduate school, I had the great fortune to visit Indiana University and be introduced to Milos Novotny. Based on this chance meeting, I decided to go to Indiana, in the hopes that Professor Novotny would agree to take me into his research group and become my PhD research advisor (which I am happy to say he did!). This chance meeting changed the entire course of my career and my life.

Career highlight
Imagining the possibilities of doing separations by capillary electrophoresis with potentials of 30,000 volts, and then seeing that idea turn into a reality, was every bit as exciting as I imagined.

The joy of separation science
I love the challenge of developing new approaches to separating and analyzing complex mixtures. The work is not only intellectually stimulating but also highly practical and important.
